Heading back before it's too late

We woke up this morning, on an island east of Bali, to an email saying our flight in 1 month back to the US, then Mexico, had been cancelled. An email from our friend Arnie in Oakland suggested we think about how many months we were willing to stay in Indonesia. Very good point. (Thank you, Arnie!)

So we headed back to Bali, where the airport is. We were in a taxi taking us to a homestay in Ubud, and got an email saying, sorry, we are closed. Basically go away. So we went back to a Best Western we spent almost 2 weeks at earlier in out trip. And here we are, and our bird friends with a nest in the palm tree outside our door are still there.

We had a good conversation with our cab driver, who was suffering already from the lack of tourists, he compared it to the bombing on Bali in 2005. We tipped heavily.

Anyway, we got the next flight out tomorrow, to SFO via Taipei. On hold now with an airline for over 2 hours, to get credit back for cancelled flights.'

And we know how lucky we are to be so far very safe from the craziness, and genuine threat. And to have great friends.

Love to all of you!
